Mark Evanier was on NPR’s Fresh Air on Wednesday to promote his latest book, Kirby: King of Comics. It’s an interesting interview and I can’t wait to read the book (right after I finish The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic-Book Scare and How It Changed America). The interview can be found here. In other Kirby related news, there was a bunch of hullabaloo over the New Yorker’s latest caption contest. Apparently the artist did not originally credit Jack Kirby (he’s now credited).

I’ve been reading George Khoury’s Image Comics: The Road to Independence. It’s… interesting. Most of the book consists of interviews with the founders and other important figures in Image’s history. I’m about 3/5ths of the way through. And so far, these are some of the biggest discoveries I’ve made:
~George Khoury would probably be willing to have sex with Todd if the opportunity arose.
~Rob Liefeld does not do interviews.
~Todd McFarland is a brilliant man, but also kind of a dick. And I’m pretty sure he thinks he’s the reincarnation of Jesus.
~Erik Larsen hates everyone.
If for nothing else it’s worth reading just for Khoury’s incompetent interviewing skills. He spends an absorbent amount of time talking over the people he’s interviewing, not to mention telling them what they think.
The whole thing is kind of a train wreck. Read it.
