Frank Miller Cares What You Think
June 3, 2008 7:53 pm Artists, Comics, MoviesEver since the release of the trailer for The Spirit, the internet (and our customers) have pointed out that it looks too much like Sin City. Especially the lonesome red highlights among an otherwise black and white trailer. Well, Frank Miller has listened to these concerns and takes some time to blog about it and says,
To drive the point home, THE SPIRIT, despite any accidental impression left by that kickass teaser-trailer, is a full-color movie. SIN CITY—and I hope to make of it a movie trilogy all its own, come Hell and high water—is, visually, a playhouse for black and white.

And the titles look A LOT like 300. He may as well film a trailer of himself screaming “Hey! This movie probably won’t appeal to anyone who doesn’t read the comics, but I’m the guy who wrote Sin City and 300!! Come and see it and we can pretend that it’s exactly like that and that I’m an experienced director.”
Miller has pretty much become a parody of himself. Look no further than ASBAR for proof. I’m pretty sure that whole “it’s tongue-in-cheek” line was invented when he realized it sucks.
I say he should start introducing himself as Hollywood Miller. Or maybe Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
