Did I ever tell you about the time I met Kevin Smith? I’m not exactly sure what year it was, but it was probably about 1999. Mr. Smith was appearing at Tulane’s McAlister auditorium and there was no way that I was going to let this opportunity pass me by. I gathered up some friends and off we went. It was pretty crowded and the evening kicked off with a screening of Dogma. I had already seen Dogma on the big screen, and didn’t leave the theater overly wowed by it. However, when you’re watching it with an audience of Smith-ites you see it in a whole new view (askew). Sorry, I just couldn’t pass up that one. Anyway, after the screening Kevin Smith gave his standard Q and A. Just watch “An Evening with Kevin Smith” on DVD for a pretty close account of the evening. We were also treated to an unfinished episode of the upcoming “Clerks: The Animated Series” followed by a signing. The signing didn’t last long, but I was one of the first people in line. Of course I froze up when it was my turn to see him. He asked me my name and signed my DVD (as pictured above).
