Top Selling Comics of 2009

We’re back with our yearly review (here’s 2008’s) of last years best sellers. Once again, thanks for choosing BSI Comics as your source for all thinks geek and pop culture. We’ve got quite a lot in store for you in the coming year. Without further ado, here is the list.

  1. BLACKEST NIGHT #1
  2. BATMAN AND ROBIN #1
  3. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #583
  4. BLACKEST NIGHT #2
  5. BLACKEST NIGHT #3
  6. BLACKEST NIGHT #5
  7. BLACKEST NIGHT #4
  8. REBORN #1
  9. FLASH REBIRTH #1
  10. CAPTAIN AMERICA #600

Wow! What a difference a year makes! This is a complete reversal of 2008, where Marvel held 7 spots and DC only 3. Much like 2008, the list is dominated by mini-series and big event titles. Blackest Night is the biggest DC event we’ve seen since re-opening after Katrina. Oh, and the only reason Blackest Night #6 is not on that list is that it was released on 12/30/2009. There is one caveat to this list. Spider-Man #583. The now infamous Spider-Man issue with Obama on the cover that saw a 5th printing. According to this list, it topped over 500,000 copies. However, it’s not clear if that number includes all of the printings. You see, because of the way that Spider-Man #583 was solicited and the overwhelming demand for all printings, we didn’t have enough to go around. Therefore, Spider-Man #583 could have easily been #1 had we ordered more than our already outrageous amount.

We’ll be back soon with a wrap-up of Graphic Novel sales soon.
