2 in 1 Showcase Episode 157: The iPad and the Digital Comic

Submitted by Blake on February 6, 2010 – 11:48 pm4 Comments

Apple’s newest announcement, the new iPad, has captured the attention of the comic book world. Is it the future of comics, a stepping stone to that future, or much ado about nothing? This week, Blake and Heather talk comics, computers, digital content, webcomics, creator response, and for some reason, Sookie Stackhouse. In the picks this week, Blake serves up a two-fer: Astro City: The Dark Age Book Four #1, and for the graphic novel review, Star Comics All-Stars Vol. 1. Just wanted to mention that a year ago I was at the annual ComicsPro convention and brought up the idea of selling a “collectible” card type concept for iTunes like comics. I was scoffed at by the other retailers. You’re right though. The best shops will survive by rolling with the changes. By the way, stay tuned for more changes.

  • Blake says:

Really? I must say, I find that surprising. I would think if a fan WAS inclined to go digital, a card would be appealing. You’ve still got a physical collectible (the card itself), and it’s an incentive to still buy from your local shop instead of just downloading directly.

Maybe we’re just ahead of our time. Also, would love to be involved with a Sandman themed episode.

  • Blake says:

Love to have you, man. We’ll set something up.
