I know that I told most of you that I wasn’t going to Comic-Con on Saturday because it’s just too crowded, but I just couldn’t help myself. More later. Until then enjoy some pics of day three.
Another packed day at SDCC. Here are some random pics of the sights we saw.
Scooby dooby doooooooooo!
I am Iron Man!
???????
Ummmmmm…???
OK, see that short guy in the middle? That’s Seth Green trying to be all incognito. Fans started to approach him and he quickly made his way off the floor and to his Robot Chicken panel.
Yesterday was the Watchmen panel at SDCC. The hall was packed and the entire cast of Watchmen was there. The best part was the exclusive footage that we got to see for the first time. Even though there is no way that all of the book can be fit into the movie, the look and feel of it is spectacular. One of the coolest scenes is the one where Dr. Manhattan blows up vietcong with the pointing of his finger. In the trailer they blow up less graphically. In the actual version there is blood, guts, and bone flying everywhere. Due to copyright reasons the exclusive footage is not allowed online yet, but enjoy the Q and A with the cast and crew. Snyder and Crudup are quite the funny men.
Well, there’s not much happening at Comic-Con this year since there’s hardly anyone here. Just kidding! Holy crap is it crowded. I’m sure once it’s all said and done the attendance will break all records. We spent all of the day wandering the floor like drooling fan boy zombies. We’ll have more pics and videos up tonight along with news from panels. Until then here are a few of the things we saw yesterday.
Hulk mad at large number of people dressed up as Batman and Joker. Also, doesn’t it look like the Hulk is clenching his My Little Pony swag in his left hand?
Alas, even Lego couldn’t stop Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from sucking.
I was going to shoplift at this local boutique, but then I saw this sign. I’m not sure if the Spirit is protecting this city until Chrismas 2008 or starting with Christmas 2008. Either way I won’t take the chance.
Sorry I’m late with this week’s podcast, guys. With the chaos of my recent trip to Las Vegas, I just plumb forgot to post it here. (Thanks to Veronica for reminding me.) To make it up to you, how about not one, not two, but three Showcase features today? First up, there’s Episode 78: The X-Files-Chase Wants to Believe. This week, Chase and I get into the history of one of his favorite shows, the franchise’s path in the comic book world, and what we’re expecting out of the new movie. We each double-up on our picks, too, with Chase digging the cosmic corner of the Marvel Universe via Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy. Meanwhile, I bid farewell to G.I. Joe: America’s Elite and hello to its spiritual successor, Spooks: Omega Team. Next, how about a pair of reviews of a little flick you may have heard of, The Dark Knight? Episode 77.5 is Chase’s DK Review! Then, there’s Episode 78.5: Blake and Erin’s Dark Knight review! Erin and I get into a spoiler-laden analysis of the movie, but don’t worry, we warn you before the spoilers start if you’re one of the three people on Earth who haven’t seen the movie yet. In addition, we also give our review of the other recent Batman flick, the animated Batman: Gotham Knight. So that’s a whole heapin’ helpin’ of Showcase for you! Don’t forget, there’s still time to e-mail us with comments for our upcoming Ultraverse retrospective at Showcase@comixtreme.com!
We’re off to San Diego for Comic-Con International 2008. Be sure to check back throughout the day starting on Thursday for updates, pictures, and videos. If you are on Twitter then be sure to follow us as that will be the first place that we post updates.
I usually don’t spaz out like a fan boy over announcements or previews. However, The Watchmen trailer managed to reduce me to a giddy little fan boy. Confession time - I can’t stop watching the trailer. I know that there is no way to fit all of the nuances of the graphic novel into the movie, but I think it will stand on its own. In other Watchmen news, be sure to get the newly released Watchmen motion comic!
Jeff Smith appeared on News Hour tonight. If you missed the interview you can download the mp3 of it here. Also, click here to ask Jeff Smith a question and the results will be posted on Wednesday July 23rd.
Just listened to a great interview with Nolan and Bale on NPR’s Fresh Air. Among other things they discuss Heath Ledgers performance and the diservice done to him by those that claim the character overcame him.
The Dark Knight lived up to its hype. The latest installment in the Batman film series set records with its opening weekend, taking in an estimated $155 million at the box office. Spider-Man 3 previously held the record, taking in $151 million last year.
If you bought the special edition of Batman Begins on BluRay you got to see the first six minutes of The Dark Knight. For those that missed it, here it is.
